How to enable Ask before closing all tabs in Microsoft Edge Chromium.

You can now enable a confirmation dialog when you close all tabs in Microsoft Edge Chromium. A similar option was available the legacy Edge app. Finally it has become available in the actual Edge version.

Earlier Microsoft promised to add most of the features that were available in the legacy Edge to its Chromium-based successor. However, a confirmation dialog for when you close multiple tabs was not available the app. Finally, Edge Chromium build 89.0.739.0 and above now include it.

At the moment of this write-up, it is only the Canary version. Also, the option is hidden, so a  flag needs to be first enabled. But if you already have it available, you can omit the flag instructions, and skip the text to the next topic.

This tutorial will show you how to enable to disable Ask before closing all tabs in Microsoft Edge Chromium.

Enable the confirmation prompt setting to Edge settings

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Type edge://flags/#edge-ask-before-closing-multiple-tabs in the address bar and hit the Enter key.
  3. Select Enabled on the right of the Ask before closing mutlitple tabs flag option. See the screenshot.Edge Add Ask Before Closing Option To Settings
  4. Restart the browser.

The needed option is now enabled in Edge settings. Here is how you can use it.

Enable Ask Before Closing All Tabs in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click on the Settings button (Alt + F) and select Settings from the menu.
  3. On the left, click on Appearance, or paste this in the address bar edge://settings/appearance.

  5. You can now close the Settings tab in Edge.

From now, when you close the Edge window that has multiple open tabs, it will display the “Do you want to close all tabs?” confirmation dialog. See the screenshot below.

The confirmation dialog includes the “Don’t ask me again” checkbox that allows you to turn off the prompt directly. You can enabled it again in the settings, as shown above.

Summary

The Ask before closing multiple tabs settings option was one of the best features of the legacy Edge app. It will help you in situations when you could accidentally close an important web site with a pre-filled form, an email, or a document. It will reach the stable version of the browser with the Edge 89 release.
